From the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada and the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 2001: A research team studied the hypothesis that caffeine ingestion leads to higher glucose and higher insulin levels. Study participants ingested caffeine followed by a glucose tolerance test (GTT)one hour later. The researchers noted that the participants' insulin levels rose. The researchers concluded that caffeine ingestion may contribute to insulin resistance.

From the University Medical Center in Nijmengen, the Netherlands and the journal Diabetes Care, 2002: These researchers studied the impact of caffeine consumption on insulin senstivity. They concluded that caffeine decreased insulin senstivity by 15% in healthy people. They also confirmed that caffeine raises blood pressure.
