Study Shows Glucose COnsumption Increases Production of Destructive Free Radicals, Lowers Level of Key Oxidant (Press Release) Added on: 9/20/2002 Hits: 12
From The State University of New York at Buffalo and The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2000: In this complex, highly technical research report, researchers report that the consumption of sugar accelerated an biological aging process known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). They compared the levels of free radicals after study participants drank either water sweetened with artifical sweeteners or water with sugar. In the group who drank the sugar-sweetened water, their levels of free radicals rose over 200% higher than the group who drank the artificially sweetened water.

Long-Term High Protein Intake Does Not Increase Oxidative Stress in Rats (Journal Abstract) Added on: 7/11/2002 Hits: 36
From the German Institute of Human Nutrition and the Journal of Nutrition, 2000: These researchers found that long-term high protein diets did not increase detrimental oxidative stress, quite to their surprise. They stated that they unexpectedly found that lower protein intake may induce oxidative stress contrary to their original hypothesis.

Fructose Consumption May Accelerate Aging- Skin's Elasticity and Softness May Be Affected (Press Release) Added on: 7/11/2002 Hits: 47
From The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and The American Technion Society, 1998: These Isreali researchers demonstrated in animal studies that excessive consumption of fructose accelerates to aging. They reported accelerated aging in the collagen of bone and skin. Collegen is a protein-based connective tissue important to bone and skin health. Fructose is a sweetener found in honey and sweet fruits that is often extracted and added to highly processed foods such as candies and soft drinks. They also noted higher cholesterol levels in the fructose-fed animals.
